IRT for 1st Responders Course Facilitators
Training in the Immediate Release Technique (IRT) is part
of the full
model RET course with additional training available to
all certified Rapid Eye Technicians in the RET
Master Level Workshop. Any certified RET Technician can
teach IRT to the general public. We recommend that those interested
in training first responders receive additional training -
unless they are already trained and experienced in the EMS
field.

An Intensive Care nurse since 1980, Laurie recognizes the
importance of "ABC's, stabilize, scoop and load."
Immediate Release Technique (IRT) is applicable either on
the ground (post physical stabilization) or once the ambulance
or emergency vehicle is enroute from the field to the Emergency
Care setting. A 1st Responder trained in the IRT process can
easily incorporate the Immediate Release Technique.
Nicknamed "Emotional CPR", IRT is effective as
a single-situation stress relieving technique - when people
have been injured physically, emotionally, or mentally. It
is in no way a replacement for other well established care
but may be a means of additional assistance to speed the healing
process.
The IRT and Self Care Model is a small, yet effective part
of the full Rapid Eye Model.

James Kearney, RET
IRT will enable you to defuse the intense emotions that come
up after tough calls, images that get stuck in our minds,
instant replays that happen without putting on that channel,
line of duty death, prolonged exposure to victims in pain,
dealing with wounded children, incidents that trigger memories
of bad jobs from the past, in other words, the jobs that stay
with you when you go home. And the best part of this, is,
that you can do this for YOURSELF, AND for co-workers, and
for victims as well.
